As a new independent publisher, we welcome submissions in the first instance from the north east of England. Back to the Wall aims to attract writers of literary fiction who are finding it difficult to be picked up by the major publishing houses. Whilst physical books will be published, the focus of Back to the Wall will be on developing and exploiting the burgeoning e-book market. While genre writers have taken advantage of this emerging world of digital publishing, writers of literary fiction are yet to establish themselves. This is where Back to the Wall comes in. Our mission is to build a list of quality authors that readers looking for literary fiction in e-book form can trust.

We do not publish children’s books, romantic fiction, science fiction, horror, chick lit, crime, fantasy or illustrated stories. Please don’t send any submissions in these genres because they will not be read.

We do publish literary fiction and memoir.

We will work closely with authors who have been accepted, in editing and revising the script, honing its strengths so that it will be at its best for publication.

We are happy to receive unsolicited submissions as long as they reflect the values of Back to the Wall Publishing.

Please send a one page introductory letter, a synopsis, and the first two chapters.

Rejections

While we recognize receiving a standard rejection letter can be frustrating and disappointing, I hope you will understand there just isn’t enough time in the day to offer personal feedback or explanations. It may well be that your writing is very good, but just not what we are looking for as a small independent publisher.
