The Mick Imlah Poetry Prize 2017

Call for entries for the TLS poetry competition which is now after Mick Imlah, Poetry editor of the Times Literary Supplement from 1992 until his death in 2009.

As Mick said in 2008, the last competition he oversaw, its purpose is to open the field, in hopes that “a great poem will enter the lists”.

The judges for the 2017 competition are Andrew Motion, Poet Laureate of the UK from 1999 to 2009, and now on the faculty of Johns Hopkins University; A. E. Stallings, the poet and translator; and Alan Jenkins, poet and Poetry editor of the TLS.

The prizes are as follows: 1st Prize – £3,000 2nd Prize – £1,500 3rd Prize – £750 The winner and runners up will be published in the Christmas double issue.

Each poem should be no longer than 35 lines, and must be the author's own work and previously unpublished. Entrants must be 18+ at the time of entry.

Entry Fee: £5 for the first poem, £3 for each additional poem.
All submissions may be paid by either debit card, credit card or direct debit. After you have entered your payment details, you will be asked to upload your poem(s).

Entrants will also receive a three-month digital subscription to the TLS; existing subscribers may pass the subscription to a recipient of their choice.
