The University of Sunderland in association with Waterstones are proud to announce the launch of the 2017 Short Story Award. We are pleased to have been able to honour many wonderful writers and stories in our inaugural year. We are also hugely thankful to the support from 2016 judges, Unthank Books and Susan Yearwood.
This year’s competition will be judged by Professor Ailsa Cox of Edge Hill University, the world’s first professor in Short Fiction. We have two categories; 11-16 (where the word limit is 1500 words) and Adults (2500). All writers, previously published are not, are free to submit. Multiple and simultaneous submissions are allowed. There is no theme.
Prizes: £500 for the winning adult and £200 for the winning 11-16 year-old
Entry fee: £5 for the adult category, but free for the 11-16 year olds
Deadline: Entrants can submit work from 1 November 2017 until 11 March 2018 (deadline extended from 1 March)..
