Dive into the thrilling world of historical crime writing, and explore the dark avenues of creativity with respected Historical Crime writer Karen Maitland
Join respected Historical Crime writer Karen Maitland to explore the challenges and delights of writing historical crime and thrillers, whilst learning more about the genre through a series of talks, discussions and carefully tailored writing exercises. You’ll generate ideas for a new project, or develop and improve a novel you’re already working on, with the help of Karen’s expert advice.

Explore the importance of pinning down facts to create an authentic tale, and find out the key questions to ask yourself to get things right. Karen will give you tips on making sure your story is a gripping novel, rather than a historical textbook, help you consider the pitfalls of historical dialogue, as well as teaching you how to help your reader relate to a historical character.

Take the opportunity to ask Karen key questions about your work, and discuss your work with others to gain valuable feedback. This is an opportunity to not only get advice from a renowned writer of the genre, but to take your work to the next level through targeted workshopping and valuable feedback.
