Escape Masterclass: How to to run a Poetry Slam with Petr Kahn
Fri 30 Jun 2017 to Fri 30 Jun 2017
Join us for this half-day workshop with Peter Kahn to learn how to run a slam poetry event with young people

A mix of interactive activities alongside video clips from real practice, and tips and ideas for use in slam scenarios will make up this dynamic, practical workshop. There will be opportunity to stage a mini slam to understand the ins and outs of the process, and also to ask questions and evaluate best practice.

This Masterclass will be ideal for poets who are interested to begin working in education settings, or to expand their existing education delivery experience. An understanding of slam poetry would be useful but definitely not essential.

About the Facilitator:

A co-founder of the London Teenage Poetry Slam and a founding member of Malika’s Kitchen, Peter Kahn earned his Master’s of Arts in English Education plus state certification from The Ohio State University (the 2nd ranked English Education program in the United States).

He has nearly twenty years experience working with young people as both a social worker and teacher. He spent 2001-2003 developing programs and leading INSETs in London and has worked in over forty London primary and secondary schools in Hackney, Lambeth, Barnet and Southwark.
