At The Friends' Meeting House, Quaker Close, Scarborough, YO12 5QZ

“In giving up on kindness — and especially our own acts of kindness — we deprive ourselves of a pleasure that is fundamental to our sense of well-being.” Philips and Taylor On Kindness 2010

The theme for this workshop we will be KINDNESS – exploring what it means to us and whether we value it as much as we should. Drawing on art, non-fiction and poetry we will spend the time writing to nurture and support ourselves and others.

Sue Spencer is leading this workshop and hopes that it will appeal to writers, therapists, health care professionals and ALL those who are willing to engage in creative and imaginative explorations. It is Sue’s belief that many workplaces and creative environments overlook kindness and value judgement and critique over generosity and empathy. During the day we will discuss how writing might be a way for people to find the space and time to safely explore this complex and contested terrain.

Sue will be drawing on the work of Kristin Neff and others to help us think about kindness, compassion and care of self.
