This course is for writers with some experience. You may have attended our Beginning to write course, or have a body of work that you would like to develop.

The course is also ideal for students who have recently finished a BA or MA in creative writing, and want a bit of a refresher, or further support to complete a collection of short stories, novel or memoir. Likewise, if you are considering applying for a Creative Writing MA, we can help you hone your portfolio.

In each session we will discuss texts in detail in relation to characterisation, place, plot and voice, focusing more closely on technique, looking at openings, endings and everything in between.

We will respond to these texts in writing exercises, and will dedicate the second half of each session to discussing that experience. We will also look at different approaches to writing a short story or novel, from planning with a plot, to writing without a plot. One-on-one tutorial time will be given to each class member.
