An introduction to dramatic action, scene writing and structure with Simon Vinnicombe

Simon began his career when he was invited to join the Royal Court a ‘Super Group’ within the Young Writers Program. He was part of the celebrated writers company ‘The Agathist’s with Mike Bartlett, Duncan Macmillan, Nick Gill, Morgan Lloyd Malcolm and Rachel Wagstaff given a residency at Theatre 503. His first two plays Year 10 (2005) and Cradle Me (2008) opened at the Finborough Theatre. Year 10 was named Time Out Critics' Choice and subsequently transferred to the BAC and the Festival Premieres second edition, a festival by the Theatre National de Strasbourg and Le Maillon and as part of the Brittany International Theatre Festival in 2006. His has been performed across Europe in several different languages. Simon’s play ‘City Love’ was performed at the Bussey Building in September 2013. Both Cradle Me and City Love are in development as feature films with Missing Link. Cradle Me supported by Film London's Micromarket and Year 10 at First Films. Simon works as a dramaturg for screen and theatre and teaches screen and stage at The University Of Hertfordshire.

Simon’s other work has been produced at the Bush Theatre, Union Theatre, Edinburgh Festival, Southwark Playhouse, the Old Vic Theatre, the Manhattan Theatre Club, New York City and on BBC Radio 4. He is currently under commission for the Soho Theatre and the National Youth Theatre. His play ‘Tomorrow’ was performed at the National Theatre. His new play ‘R and D’ opened on the 22nd September 2016 at The Hampstead Theatre. All of Simon’s plays have been published by Methuen Drama (Bloomsbury Press). Simon is under commission for the Hampstead Theatre. Simon has just returned from New York working on film as a dramaturg for Missing Link.
