How do we know what makes a ‘good’ piece of creative writing? This seminar explores the difficult issues of subjectivity and talent in the evaluation of creative work. The day begins with a focus on the pedagogical rationale for assessment and feedback practices in Creative Writing, drawing in particular on findings from the TESTA project (
www.testa.ac.uk). Participants will then be treated to a lively debate and discussion about the benefits and drawbacks of criteria-based marking on Creative Writing programmes. In addition, there will be an opportunity for participants to apply new strategies to feedback practices, debate the issues, and consider solutions. This seminar will be of interest to teacher-practitioners and programme leaders in a range of creative subjects.
