Explore the essential elements of creating a point of view and voice that is right for your story
Stories need great hooks, drive and momentum. But what really lures the reader in and holds them there are the characters and how they tell their stories, whether in first or third person narrative. If characters’ voices feel real then they are alive, readers care about them and want to follow the pulse that says ‘come with me’…. In this workshop, led by novelist and Costa Prize shortlistee Kerry Young, you will explore the essential elements of creating a point of view and voice that is right for your story. You’ll look at what makes a narrative voice compelling for readers; how voice can help to drive story and build dramatic tension; and how dialogue can be made authentic and purposeful. You’ll share examples from your favourite writers and participate in exercises that help you get down to business. Suitable for fiction writers of all levels.
