Who Are We Now? - A workshop for BAME writers
Thu 27 Jul 2017 to Thu 27 Jul 2017
Free Life Writing Workshop asks: Who are we now? A year on from Brexit and political upheavals in the UK continue. But what effect has this had on YOUR everyday life?
Do you feel your relationships with friends, neighbours and family have changed since the vote to leave the EU? Are you more or less fearful for the future? Do you feel differently about your city, region or country since last June?
Dr Katy Massey will run a free life-writing workshop for BAME writers to consider these questions. The aim is to produce pieces of creative writing which describe the effect that the last year’s political events have had on you and your loved ones’ identities. Using structured exercises, we will make our writing as vivid and engaging as possible. Please bring photos or illustrations you would like to use, if relevant.
Selected pieces will be included in a new pamphlet entitled 'Who are we now?' to be printed and published online. Printed pamphlets became popular in the 17th century as a way for ordinary people to have their say about important issues. This project is inspired by a pamphlet from the English Civil War called 'The World Turned Upside Down' which described the UK in a state of domestic chaos.
