Writing Magical Realism with Marcus Sedgwick
Tue 5 May 2015 to Tue 5 May 2015
Join award-winning author Marcus Sedgwick as he presents an intensive, practical masterclass on writing successful and engaging magical realism

Put simply, if you’re writing a book that’s set in our world but requires the reader to accept that characters and events move beyond the constrains of what’s ‘normal’ (this being the ‘magical’ element of your story), learning how to make the ordinary seem extraordinary and the extraordinary ordinary, then this masterclass is for you.

In this session, Marcus will share the techniques, practical tips and hands-on exercises you need to hone your writing. Covering everything from establishing the right balance between the reality and the magic, crafting and maintaining an exciting plot and convincingly interweaving elements of magic with everyday occurrences, Marcus will help you write a novel that, using the distance magical realism allows us, reveals truths to us about the world we live in – as all great fiction does.
