Dead Ink New Voices 2016
Deadline: Sun 31 Jan 2016
New Voices is Dead Ink’s annual publication of three novels from the best new and emerging writers in Britain

This month we announced the launch of New Voices 2015 as part of our Publishing the Underground programme. Now we’re looking for exciting work for next year’s New Voices 2016. Submissions are now open!

New Voices is Dead Ink’s annual publication of three novels from the best new and emerging writers in Britain. Last year we achieved two nominations for the reader’s choice in The Guardian’s First Book Award, two listings for the Not The Booker Prize, a shortlisting for The Saboteur Awards and another for The Gladstone Writers in Residency Award.

New Voices is our flagship series and forms the cornerstone of Dead Ink’s entire list. What we’re looking for is simple. Submissions must be:

• Literary fiction

• Novella or Novel length

• From a Dead Ink member currently based in the United Kingdom

We’re looking for extraordinary literary fiction from emerging authors. We want novels that are provocative and daring. We want fiction that is original and challenging. New Voices represents the latest in British literary talent and it is a chance for the previously unheard to be showcased on the Dead Ink platform.

We want those submitting work this year to become Dead Ink members too. That means you have to support one of the 2015 authors if you want to be one of next year’s authors. That’s what we’re trying to build with Publishing the Underground – a collaborative organisation that supports new writing across the country.

In order to publish new authors we need to be able to take risks. This model is how we achieve this. There are two ways to become a member:

  • Until 1st December 2015, you can become a member for free when you purchase a Dead Ink novel through our crowdfunding scheme, Publishing the Underground. Books are £12 each, with no shipping costs.
  • You can also purchase membership individually at the Dead Ink online store. Membership is for life, so you’ll never need to pay for a renewal. The membership fee itself will be used to help keep Dead Ink running and to support our authors. Individual membership is £8.

New Voices authors receive extensive editorial support, tour the UK, play a direct role in the design of their book covers and their books are represented by Inpress Books, the UK’s leading representative of books from independent publishers.
