Editorial Assistant

Aesthetica Magazine are recruiting a full-time Editorial Assistant to work in our busy York office

You will be working in print and digital for the art and culture magazine, Aesthetica, as well as the Aesthetica Short Film Festival, Art Prize and Creative Writing Award.

The post includes:

  • Writing copy, blogs and social media posts and newsletters.
  • Organising writers and bloggers.
  • Liaising with press agents and be the point of contact for editorial enquiries.
  • Proofreading and sub-editing editorial content.
  • Acting as personal assistant to the editor.
  • Setting up and conducting interviews.
  • Researching, finding and presenting appropriate editorial content.
  • Dealing with rights and permissions.
  • Working with digital images and page layout software.
  • Uploading text and images to a website using content management systems.
  • Working with creative, editorial, production, advertising and marketing staff.
  • Keeping databases, spreadsheets and other records accurate and up-to-date.
  • Carrying out general office duties.

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent organisational skills, pro-active with a positive can-do attitude.
  • Outstanding written skills with a journalistic flair and who can produce high quality content to extremely tight deadlines.
  • Have an eagle eye for detail and be able to fact-check as you work.
  • Be approachable, friendly and a good communicator.
  • Be able to forge strong working relationships with colleagues and external contacts including curators, artists, writers and press agents.
  • Be able to work accurately and calmly under pressure.
  • Be IT competent with working knowledge of digital images and websites using content management systems.
  • Should be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in the art and cultural sector.

Normal working hours will be around 40 hours per week Monday to Friday, however you must be flexible and work longer hours to meet publication deadlines.
