This is a remarkable opportunity to play a key part in the growth of a rapidly expanding and unique organisation, the Institute of Art and Ideas (IAI). Described by the Guardian as 'the return to big thinking' and by Total Politics as 'Europe's answer to TED', the IAI puts on events throughout the year, including HowTheLightGetsIn - now the world's largest philosophy and music festival.

We are looking for a very special individual to take on the role of Events manager in our Bristol and Hay operations. Based between Bristol & Hay-on-Wye, you will be responsible for helping to build and manage a team whose goal is to create a programme of successful events that builds audience and is original in content both at our art centre in Hay and our arts club, the Square, in Bristol.

The events you are responsible for will include talks and debates, music, performance, films as well as the music programming of our HowTheLightGetsIn festival. You will also have responsibility for building and managing membership of The Square.

Specifically this will involve:

  • Growing relationships with and curating a database of event organisers and promoters.
  • Marketing events through digital and traditional hardcopy publicity.  This will include effective use of video, social media, and newsletters, as well as arts listings, poster campaigns, flyers and the press.
  • Scheduling and programming events to grow strands and create event ‘brands’
  • Managing a small team and recruiting interns to assist in the promotion and production of events
  • Hosting events and acting as MC
  • Liaising with our membership to nurture relationships, develop event ideas, secure new members and oversee our current membership

All candidates should have a strong academic background (min 2.1 from a good university), be impeccably presented, charming and articulate.  You will also need a driving licence. Experience of organising events is of course essential.

If you think you have what it takes, please send your CV and Cover Letter to jobs@artandideas.org, stating “Events & Membership Manager” in the subject line
