Salary: £15,000-16,000 per annum
Hours: 35 hours per week, 30 days annual leave
Duration: Fixed-term 6 month contract in first instance with possibility of extension
This role calls for an exceptionally highly-motivated and dedicated person. Reporting to the The Reader Accountant, you will assist in the successful management of the day to day Finances for The Reader and its associated Social Enterprises. In addition you will be required from time to time to assist the Accountant with strategic work such as budgeting and modelling.
- Maintain the Purchase and Sales Ledgers, ensuring that all invoices payable and receivable are dealt with in a timely manner using the Sage system
- Assist with General Ledger input at month end/closure of accounts
- Take responsibility for bank reconciliations (SAGE and bank accounts)
- Create and maintain purchasing systems (including direct debit arrangements where appropriate)
- Liaise with customers and suppliers in case of queries
- Prepare the necessary information for our payroll bureau in order to enable the monthly and weekly payroll and expenses runs
- Be the point of contact for and administer the auto enrolment pension requirements
- Accurately making regular payments to suppliers and volunteers (mostly using internet banking)
- Take responsibility for credit control
- Advise staff and managers within The Reader and its social enterprises on the procedures for making payments, collecting income, and submitting expenses claims; and acting as a point of enquiry on financial matters
- Take responsibility for petty cash and banking monies
- Refine existing financial procedures and create new systems and procedures when required.
- Undertake any other duties as required by the The Reader Accountant
