Host/Compere, Bright Smoke

Bright Smoke host 2018 Apples and Snakes, in partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company, are looking for a charismatic and dynamic individual to host a spoken word poetry event series at the RSC’s “The Other Place”, in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Returning for its second season, Bright Smoke is a free monthly poetry night at The Other Place featuring five young commissioned poets alongside some of the UK’s poetic heavyweights.
We’re seeking a confident individual with great interpersonal and communication skills, preferably with an interest in spoken word poetry and experience in working with communities and hosting/promoting events. We are looking for a host who can be proactive and act as an ambassador for Bright Smoke and connect with local poets in Stratford-upon-Avon and in the general Warwickshire area. Ideally applicants will be based in Stratford-upon-Avon / the West Midlands.
Applicants must be available to host evening events (6-9pm) on all of the following dates: 12 April, 10 May, 14 June, 12 July, 13 September, and 8 November 2018.

In the covering letter/video, please answer the following:
1) Why you’re suited to and interested in this role and what you plan to bring to the night.
2) How you would spread the word about the event and work with the RSC and Apples & Snakes to engage with local poets and audiences.
Fee: £750 to include hosting the events at the rate of £100 per event and an addition £150 for audience development/ambassador work. The successful applicant will also receive mentoring and career development support from Apples and Snakes.
