The Department of English, delivering a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and short courses, is staffed by one of the strongest and most diverse new-university research groups in the UK.

The department is home to the international Manchester Writing School, run under the creative direction of UK Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy.

Our close links with the local community enable our students to gain experience in a range of areas, from education and youth work to archiving, librarianship, creative project work, journalism and media production.
