Lecturer in Creative Writing - Poetry, Queen's University Belfast

Working 22.2 hours per week, the successful candidate will undertake research in line with the School’s research strategy, to teach in the area of Creative Writing (Poetry) and poetry criticism at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and to contribute to the activities of the School and the Seamus Heaney Centre.

Founded in 1845 as Queen’s College Belfast, we became an independent university in 1908. Today, we are a member of the Russell Group, combining excellence in research and education with a student-centred ethos. The School of Arts, English and Languages has around 150 academic and support staff supplemented with a number of professional tutors and teaching assistants, and boasts excellent, award-winning teaching and leading research.

The successful candidate must have:
• A relevant PhD (or be about to obtain) or equivalent.
• A publication record appropriate to stage of career that will enhance the reputation of the School and the SHC.
• Research interests that are sustainable and that complement or enhance research activities of School.
• A minimum of 3 years research experience in a relevant field.
• Relevant teaching experience.
• An ability to deliver high quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the area of Creative Writing (Poetry).
• An ability to teach on critical courses related to Creative Writing (Poetry).
• Ability to contribute to broader management and administrative processes.
• A willingness to contribute to the planning and delivery of the SHC Poetry Summer School and to the maintenance of the Yellow Nib poetry journal

Salary scale: £35,550 - £49,149 per annum pro rata (potential to progress to £52,132 per annum pro rata through sustained exceptional contribution). Job Ref: 18/106402
