Jaybird Live Literature is a small independent live literature production organisation, with a developing reputation for entertaining, beautifully designed touring poetry shows with high production values
JLL’s latest show is a version of Clare Pollard’s 'Ovid’s Heroines' which will be on tour during 2015.
JLL is offering a short traineeship associated with this show, aiming to provide an individual with a tailored introduction to live literature direction and production.
The trainee will receive...
- Mentoring sessions with the show producer on the creative and practical aspects of live literature production
- Shadowing sessions with the director during selected show rehearsals (to be held 17 – 21 December)
- Opportunity to attend a number of dates on the show’s tour
- Encouragement to disseminate thoughts and reflections on the internship via various networks
- Advice, guidance and feedback on trainee’s own potential live lit projects if appropriate
The exact nature of the training will reflect the interests and experience of the successful applicant as far as is possible. Mentoring sessions and rehearsals will take place in London.
A bursary of £700 + costs is offered.
If you are most interested in live lit direction, this traineeship would suit you if you already have some directorial experience (ie, early career directors or recent drama school graduates) and you are interested in learning how to create literature shows with performers who are not actors. If you are interested in the production side of live lit, it would be useful if you had some college / university / early career arts administration experience. The traineeship is not suitable for under 21s, and some independent travel will be involved.
Please email Julia Bird (julia@jaybird.org.uk) with c500 words saying who you are, what you want to learn about live literature and why, by 5pm on 2 December. Interviews will take place in London on Monday 8 December
