In association with Creative Scotland, the New Playwrights Awards are an exciting opportunity for early career playwrights living in Scotland with a genuine commitment to writing for the theatre.
The Gaelic Books Council will support one of the Awards for a new Gaelic playwright. Special attention will also be given to playwrights writing in Scots but an award cannot be guaranteed.
Playwrights' Studio, Scotland will work with five new writers giving them the time, space, flexibility and financial support to develop their work and help further their careers by focussing on a particular script.
Previous recipients of the Award include Stef Smith, writer of the Olivier-award-winningRoadkill and The Silence of Bees; and AJ Taudevin, whose script, Some Other Mother, toured successfully in Scotland during 2013 and Lesley Hart, whose play Three Seconds, was produced by A Play, A Pie and A Pint.
