The Poetry Translation Centre was established by the poet Sarah Maguire in 2004 to translate contemporary poetry from Africa, Asia and Latin America

Intern opportunity in a leading literature charity working 7 hours a week for 6 months starting in January 2016.

Salary: £9.40 an hour (London living wage).

The Poetry Translation Centre was established by the poet Sarah Maguire in 2004 to translate contemporary poetry from Africa, Asia and Latin America to a high literary standard through a series of innovative collaborations between translators and leading UK poets.

This is a flexible role with the successful applicant working 7 hours a week for six months (with the potential for renewal for a further six months). You will be working alongside the Centre’s Poetry Translation Managing-Programme Director and Administrator & Communications Manager, based in London.

Job summary:

The role of intern is to support the Poetry Translation Centre’s work across all its programme areas, including. This will include:

  • General office administration and minute taking.
  • Assisting with the PTC’s digital communications (website, podcasts and social media).
  • Gathering data about our online audiences.
  • Maintaining the PTC’s Google AdWords account
  • Administering book sales and stocktaking.
  • Assisting at PTC events, including tour planning.
  • Helping to plan and execute fundraising campaigns.
  • Assisting in preparations for the launch of new poetry publications.

Personal specification:

We would invite applications from people who are:

  • Interested in other cultures, especially non-European cultures.
  • Interested in the Poetry Translation Centre’s work promoting poetry from around the world.
  • Great communicators, both written and verbal.
  • Experienced with using digital platforms.
  • Flexible and well organised.
  • Resourceful with an ability to use initiative.
  • Passionate about poetry and literature in translation.
