Founded in 1845 as Queen’s College Belfast, we became an independent university in 1908. The School of Arts, English and Languages has around 150 academic and support staff supplemented with a number of professional tutors and teaching assistants, and boasts excellent, award-winning teaching and leading research.

The successful candidate must have:
• PhD or equivalent in English or a cognate discipline.
• A sustained record of publications that is world-leading in the area of Creative Writing.
• A proven track record of attracting and supervising research students.
• Evidence of major external research activities such as securing research funding.
• A research profile that complements the research priorities of the School.
• Proven ability to deliver high quality UG and PG teaching that complements and enhances the School’s teaching activities.
• Evidence of strategic academic leadership in research, programme development, teaching and management.
• Experience of working collaboratively with non-academic organisations to deliver impact outside the University.
• A clear vision on future research and development plans and how they would enhance the Seamus Heaney Centre, and the School of Arts, English and Languages.
• Evidence of ability to strengthen the profile of the Seamus Heaney Centre and School’s national and international research and development networks.
