Professor in Creative Writing, Queen's University Belfast

Working 22.2 hours per week, the successful candidate will make a substantial contribution to the research and teaching activities of the School and the Seamus Heaney Centre, providing academic and research leadership, and enhancing international links and research capabilities. In addition, they will be an advocate for Creative Writing in all its forms through the activities of the Seamus Heaney Centre
Founded in 1845 as Queen’s College Belfast, we became an independent university in 1908. Today, we are a member of the Russell Group, combining excellence in research and education with a student-centred ethos. The School of Arts, English and Languages has around 150 academic and support staff supplemented with a number of professional tutors and teaching assistants, and boasts excellent, award-winning teaching and leading research.

The successful candidate must have:
• PhD or equivalent in English or a cognate discipline.
• A sustained record of publications that is world-leading in the area of Creative Writing.
• A proven track record of attracting and supervising research students.
• Evidence of major external research activities such as securing research funding.
• A research profile that complements the research priorities of the School.
• Proven ability to deliver high quality UG and PG teaching that complements and enhances the School’s teaching activities.
• Evidence of strategic academic leadership in research, programme development, teaching and management.
• Experience of working collaboratively with non-academic organisations to deliver impact outside the University.
• A clear vision on future research and development plans and how they would enhance the Seamus Heaney Centre, and the School of Arts, English and Languages.
• Evidence of ability to strengthen the profile of the Seamus Heaney Centre and School’s national and international research and development networks.

Professor salary will be determined in accordance with the Professorial ranges as applied within the University. Job Ref: 18/106404
