The National Literacy Trust are looking for an experienced project manager with a background in education or cultural organisations to join our programmes team and build our Cultural Writers activity
You will work with cultural and heritage organisations to develop literacy activity that will inspire and engage young people, including creating pupil resources to stimulate writing and introducing teacher training that draws on their collections.
You will need experience of delivering education projects with cultural partners and running training or workshops for teachers, and should have some knowledge of current UK policy in education and literacy.
One person in six in the UK has poor literacy skills that impact on every area of their life. A child without good reading, writing and communication skills can’t succeed at school and as an adult will be locked out of the job market. Poverty doubles the likelihood of literacy failure by the age of five.
We are the national charity dedicated to addressing this. We are working to a five-year strategy, leading the campaign to address the UK’s literacy challenge and transforming opportunities for the most deprived children. We work in partnership with schools and the education sector and lead business and community partners to tackle the problem in the country’s poorest communities. Our research and policy programmes fuel our critical campaign. Our mission is to equip young people with literacy fit for employment and life.
As well as a competitive salary, we offer benefits including a generous annual leave allowance of 28 days (plus bank holidays and office closure between Christmas and new year), and pensions contributions of 8% of annual salary.
