Publishers: Is the future of publishing social?
Deadline: Thu 31 Dec 2015
Be a part of a PhD study being conducted at Oxford Brookes University looking at how our definition of a book has been re-defined by modern technology and how that relates to the rise of independent authors using social media as a place in which to create fiction

I am seeking out publishers to complete a short, 20 question questionnaire. The purpose of this study is to ask you about your company, how it uses social media, how you define a ‘book’, and in what ways you interact with authors via social media platforms.

Date: September – December 2015
The initial study will take place online.

Participants must

• Be a publisher based within the United Kingdom
• Publish at least 3 books per year (print book, eBooks, audiobooks, etc. This is flexible.)

Taking part will include

• Taking an online questionnaire that asks about your use of social media platforms, the industry’s relationship to the traditional publishing model and the independent author, and how publishers can use social media platforms beyond marketing – as a place to source content.

• Participants will have the option to opt-in to a further interview to discuss in more detail the advantages and disadvantages of using social media within a publishing context.

The end result of this project will benefit the publishing industry (authors and publishes) by developing a way of looking at social media as a content generator and working with the rise of the independent author in the face of new, social technologies.
