Senior Library Assistant

The Scottish Poetry Library is a dynamic organisation, a unique national resource and advocate for poetry

The SPL is looking for a creative and experienced individual to join its small team as Senior Library Assistant, helping to fulfil the SPL’s aim of bringing people and poetry together. This new, part-time post will be based in the SPL in Edinburgh.

Responsibilities

• Manage the SPL’s periodicals & magazines collection, including acquisitions, processing and cataloguing
• Indexing of Scottish literary periodicals for the SPL’s Scottish Poetry Index (SPI)
• Assisting Assistant Librarian with reference enquiries and the cuttings collection
• Occasional reception support and other duties when required

Essential skills

• Library & Information Studies professional qualification
• Experience of working in a library environment
• Good communication skills
• Attention to detail
• Strong budgeting skills
• Excellent general knowledge and search skills
• Good knowledge of Scottish literature

Desirable experience

• Cataloguing with MARC21
• Knowledge of Scottish and world poetry
• Some experience of the Scots language
• Experience working with periodicals

Salary

• £18,500 per annum pro rata, 15 hours per week
• 1 year fixed contract
