Volunteer Administrator
Deadline: Thu 3 May 2012
The Poetry Book Society are a small literary charity with three staff which works to promote poetry to readers

We are a small literary charity with three staff which works to promote poetry to readers. The organisation has been going since 1953, when it was set up by T S Eliot and friends to ‘propagate the art of poetry’. We run a poetry book club for committed poetry readers and reach out to other poetry readers through our two websites, www.poetrybooks.co.uk and www.poetrybookshopline.com. We also run the T S Eliot Prize for Poetry.

Following on from the withdrawal of our regular funding by Arts Council England, we have cut staff and are now looking for a volunteer to give us one or occasionally two days a week working with our friendly small team in our busy centralLondonoffice.  This volunteer role will help us to continue to carry out our core work and to extend our activities to find and develop more poetry readers, particularly through the web, and to enable us to provide increased support for poets and publishers.

The volunteer will work closely with the Director on administration related to the day-to-day running of the charity, as well as helping with projects and providing support to the Marketing and Editorial and Membership and Sales Officers.

The Administrator will cover a range of administrative tasks and we would like to find someone who is literate with good computer and internet skills, with experience of office administration and ideally some interest in poetry. The role will involve:

Answering the phone and taking messages and orders.
Preparing invoices and carrying out data entry and general administrative duties.

Assisting the Director in the administration of the PBS’s current projects, including the TS Eliot Prize and its projects, and ongoing and new commitments, including event organisation.

Assisting the Director with research relating to fund-raising and potential new projects.

Assisting the Editorial and Marketing Officer with the administration of the submissions.
Working on a specific project assigned to you.
Helping with general charity work as and when required.
Assisting with editorial, marketing and sales work.

Please apply by email with CV.
