Write Aberdeen – Write Regensburg Competition
Deadline: Fri 1 Aug 2014
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the twinning of Aberdeen and Regensburg, Germany, a bilingual collection of new writing by writers from both cities is to be published in 2015

Anyone aged 18 or above who lives, works or studies in Aberdeen – or who previously has – is invited to submit poetry, flash fiction and/or non-fiction (personal memory) to the Write Aberdeen competition. Up to 10 winning entrants will be published in the print collection and there will also be a £100 cash prize for each winning entry.

The competition will be judged by award-winning local writers Wayne Price and Helen Lynch.

Each work must relate to the city of Aberdeen in some way, whether that be through its themes, location, local language (Doric), etc. Each work must not exceed the following limits:

Poetry (up to 30 lines)
Flash-fiction (up to 500 words)
Non-fiction, personal memory (up to 500 words)

Writers of all levels and abilities are welcome to submit their work, but please read the Tips and Advice provided in the Submission Guidelines file before entering for a better idea of what we are looking for. All files on the competition website.

The competition deadline is August 1st 2014 and each entrant may submit up to four pieces of writing. To submit your entry, please fill in a 'Write Aberdeen Entry Form' and send it to writeaberdeen@gmail.com once you have read the Submission Guidelines and Terms and Conditions.

Winners will be notified in September 2014. Their work will then be translated and produced for the bilingual collection which will published in both Aberdeen and Regensburg in 2015. Winners will be invited to read their work at a launch event in Aberdeen around mid-2015.

The 'Write Aberdeen – Write Regensburg' Project is being led by Shane Strachan in conjunction with the Volkshochschulen (VHS) in Regensburg and Aberdeen City Council’s Twinning Aberdeen. The project is funded by Aberdeen City Council Twin City Project Funding and the VHS, Regensburg.

A parallel competition on the theme of 'Regensburg' is currently taking place; all details.
