Write On Fest
Deadline: Mon 5 Jan 2015
We are looking to broaden the festival to give a greater voice within the organisation and region as a whole by exploring works in four different categories

The Write On Festival, now in its fifth year, will take place Wednesday 1 – Saturday 4 July 2015 and aims to celebrate creative writing and showcase new work from local writers, directors and actors from the whole of the West Midlands and bordering counties with Herefordshire.

This is a very exciting opportunity for any writer or playwright looking to develop their creative skills, and chosen applicants will have the opportunity to attend skills based workshops and are given feedback on their final draft by Nick Lane, formerly the Associate Director of Hull Truck Theatre Company and currently a freelance playwright. Selected extracts of the work will then be recited or performed at The Courtyard during the festival.

We are seeking submissions from now until 5 January 2015. Work will be selected for its excellence and contemporary qualities by The Courtyard’s Writers Panel and we will inform successful candidates by 25 January 2015. Work will be selected as part of The Courtyard’s commitment to new writing, especially that of new staged productions.

We are looking to broaden the festival to give a greater voice within the organisation and region as a whole by exploring works in four different categories.  There will be a participation fee for all successful candidates that will go towards the marketing, workshops and general over heads of the building and that writer will be expected to find the actors and directors for their own shows. We have divided the costing of these below.

  • Scratch night entries – You pay £25
  • 1 Act Play entries – You pay £50
  • Site Specific pieces – You pay £30
  • 2 Act Play entries – you pay £60

Please note that if you are selected you will be required to send an image and a fifty word maximum copy for our brochure and a working title of your play.

Unfortunately due to popular demand we are unable to offer any feedback to non selected applicants. More information will be made available on this once selected playwrights are chosen.
