This seminar will look at different forms of community work undertaken by poets, from running one-off site-specific workshops to being a poet in residence working across a whole community.

This daylong NAWE workshop is aimed at poets and writers who are working in community settings or would like to develop this type of work. It will look at different forms of community work undertaken by writers, from running one-off, site-specific worskhops to being a writer in residence across a whole community. As well as sharing artistic practice that underpins this work, the day will also look at the practicalities of planning, budgeting, fund-raising and evaluating this work.
The seminar will be hosted by Anne Caldwell, poet and Programme Director of NAWE, and Jonathan Davidson, Chief Executive of Writing West Midlands, along with the writer, River Wolton. River has worked extensively in community settings. Recent project include work with refugees and asylum seekrs, a digital book with older people in residential care and multi-media projects for Stories of Activisim (Sheffield University). She was Derbyshire Poet Laureate 2007-9 and is currently a Writer In Residence with Writing East Midlands.
