I am a novelist and short story writer (details below). I have also taught, primarily prose fiction and creative writing, for twenty years at the University of Chichester, where I am Professor of Contemporary Fiction. For further info, please see www.alison-macleod.com.
I have published two novels, The Changeling (Macmillan 1996) and The Wave Theory of Angels (Penguin 2005). My most recent book was Fifteen Modern Tales of Attraction (Penguin, 2007) which was longlisted in 2008 for the International Frank O'Connor Award and named as one of the top ten 'Books to Talk About in 2009', part of World Book Day events. My stories have been widely published by, for example, Prospect, London Magazine, Bloomsbury, Virago, Serpent's Tail and Comma Press; it has also been broadcast on the BBC. My work has won support from Arts Council England, the Author's Foundation and the Canada Council for the Arts. I was the 2008 recipient of the Society of Authors' Olive Cook Award for Short Fiction. I am currently working on my fourth book, a novel to be published by Hamish Hamilton/Penguin.
At the University of Chichester, I now contribute mostly to our very successful M.A. in Creative Writing and to our Ph.D. programme in English and Creative Writing.
