I have been writing for children and young people since the mid 70s. For most of my writing career I have written for professional theatres and touring theatre companies and I was one of the pioneers of Early Years Theatres with my first theatre company, Theatre Kit. More recently I have turned to writing novels. My first novel for young people, Devil's Rock, was published by Bloomsbury in 2009 My second novel, Forest of Lies, was published in 2014. Since 2007 I have worked in schools with music specialist Alan Boxer conducting song writing and performance programmes for children in Key Stages 1 and 2.

Chris and Alan have evolved a methodology that uses group song writing to explore emotive issues, build group cohesion and foster individual self-confidence.
Since 2007 Music & Words has worked with the 12 schools in the Tiverton Learning Community and 13 schools in Culm Valley learning community over periods of 3 months creating and performing song cycles with each community, created an oratorio for Exeter Cathedral, written musicals with Bolham Primary School and Plough Youth Theatre, and songs with VoiceWorx Community Choir.
