I'm a writer, project-maker and workshop facilitator with a passion for fairy tales, folklore and myth. I run workshops and activities, give talks and create projects that explore the wonders of story and seek out the hidden extraordinary in the places we live. I work with children, families and adults of all ages in a wide variety of community and educational settings, encouraging them to make and share stories.
My short stories have been widely published in anthologies and magazines including The Best British Short Stories (Salt), Murmurations: an Anthology of Uncanny Stories about Birds (Two Ravens Press), Still (Negative Press), Cabinet des Fées, The Adirondack Review and Magpie Magazine. Two of my stories, 'Marionettes' and 'Into the Penny Arcade' are published as limited-edition chapbooks by Nightjar Press and my first collection is due out from Unsettling Wonder in 2014.
Since 2010, I have developed and run workshops and drop in activities for events and organisations including Chester Performs, the Manchester Children’s Book Festival, Liverpool’s On the Waterfront, The Dukes, the Bluecoat, the Harris, The Word Festival and The House of Fairy Tales. I have worked as a Project Manager and Editor for Litfest and a Family Learning Tutor for Lancashire Adult Learning. I've lectured and run workshops on fairy tales for the University of Central Lancashire.
I was co-founding editor of online journal Paraxis and founding editor of New Fairy Tales.
