I have worked with Kate on a number of community arts projects.
She is sensitive in dealing with a range of different individuals and successfully engaging everybody in the group in a appropriate way. This involves working inclusively, enclouraging and challenging individuals to divelop their own creativity. Sessions are fun and relaxed - individual and group activities take place in an atmosphere of trust, enabling people to take creative risks in a supported environment.
Her approach to team work is mature, collaborating effectively with staff and other artists to devise and deliver innovative projects.
She is consistently reliable and efficient in preparation for sessions and paperwork for reporting/monitoring on projects.

Kate North is an experienced writer and tutor. She has been involved in a number of community projects within the City of York where she has worked with groups with diverse backgrounds and abilities. Kate has delivered community projects working with carers and teenagers within the City of York. Kate will be sharing her enthusiasm for literature in York's first Literature Festival in March 2007 by leading a workshop for the 'poetry phobic'.
Kate is currently the Big Book Share Facilitator at HMP YOI Askham Grange (a female open prison). This is a project funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and delivered as a partnership between City of York Council and HMP YOI Askham Grange. Kate is responsible for ensuring that the project outcomes are met and has in four short months taken over the delivery of the Storybook Mums project (where residents read stories that are recorded, edited specifically for their children), organised a Christmas poetry competition, delivered creative reading and writing classes to skills for life students and organised storytelling workshops and reading groups to begin in the next few months. In addition to this, Kate has submitted detailed funding applications to support the project and delivered talks about the project to peers at a regional and national level.
Kate is enthusiastic in her approach and commitment to all of the projects undertaken with the City of York Counci. Her enthusiasm and knowledge is inspirational to those taking part in the projects. She is professional and approachable and is able to build excellent relationships with participants and colleagues alike. This is evidenced by the repeat requests for projects and activities. The advance planning and preparation for all activities is very thorough. Kate is particularly skilled at exploring different methods of engaging people in order to enable them to be inspired and creative.
