Stewart writes fiction and non-fiction (often history-based) for adults and children of all ages. Some of his 240 published titles have won prizes and his work has been translated into almost two dozen languages. Sometime chair of the Education Writers Group of the Society of Authors, he is a frequent speaker, occasional journalist and broadcaster who visits dozens of schools each year (has a current CRB check), teaches creative writing at a French university and is currently helping with the establishment of a BA in Creative and Professional Writing at Canterbury Christ Church University.
