Creative Writing

The Department of English and Creative Writing at De Montfort University is pleased to offer one Arts and Humanities Research Council PhD studentship in English, available from 1 October 2012. The studentship, which covers all tuition fees and includes a maintenance grant, is open to students wishing to pursue projects in any area of English Literature or Creative Writing. DMU English has particular research strengths in the areas of textual scholarship, literary adaptations and Shakespeare studies.
Duration Three years full time; six years part time

Cost Postgraduate Research Fees: £5,000. A number of scholarships and early payment discounts are available to help international students study at De Montfort University. Vice Chancellor's International Scholarship 2012/13: This £1,000 scholarship is based on academic merit and supports our overseas students with the cost of studying in the UK. It is deducted from the full tuition fees of overseas-status students. Once you have applied and been accepted onto a course at DMU, and if you achieve the required grades, you will automatically be awarded the scholarship.
 
The international Centre for Adaptations brings together academics from Drama, English, Film Studies and New Media. It hosts the journal, Adaptation (Oxford University Press) and the book series, Screen Adaptations (Methuen and Norton), organises workshops across universities in Europe and America, offers lectures during an annual cultural events week, and manages the annual Association of Adaptation Studies conference (which has taken place in Leicester, Atlanta, Amsterdam, London, Berlin and Istanbul). The MA by Independent Study is offered through the Centre which also recruits students for the PhD / MPhil / MA by Research degrees.
Requirements
Applications for should be made on the application form and annex, accompanied by a research proposal. This statement should indicate the purpose of your research and themes you propose to investigate, an indication of the methods you expect to use and the resources you will need to access to complete your research. You should seek references from two people of appropriate standing able to comment on your suitability for your chosen programme. Reference forms can be downloaded and emailed to your referees, who should return these separately to the Faculty of Art, Design and Humanities.
