Arvon Winter Warmer: Starting to Write a Novel
Mon 15 Jan 2018 to Sat 20 Jan 2018
‘Voice’ often seems an intangible, mysterious measure, yet it’s arguably the most vital element to any piece of fiction.

Do you have a voice as a writer? Yes! Only you may just not have found it yet. We’ll explore ways of taking life experience, memory, and ‘what if’ scenarios as starting points for arresting fiction. We’ll look at elements of craft – structure, dialogue, character – and how to best employ them in telling your stories. Above all, we’ll teach you to trust, develop, and take pleasure in your own voice.

Tutors
Emylia Hall is the author of four novels. With books set in rural Hungary, the Swiss Riviera, Cornwall’s far west, and the Tuscan isle of Elba, her work is strongly influenced by place.

Courttia Newland is the author of six books. His latest, The Gospel According to Cane, was published in February 2013. He also writes for the stage and screen.

Guest
Wyl Menmuir’s first novel, The Many, was longlisted for the 2016 Man Booker Prize for Fiction.
