Arvon: Writing to Make Change Happen
Tue 31 Jan 2017 to Sat 4 Feb 2017
How can we forge a narrative together in this time of ecological and social crisis; one that is not afraid to communicate hard truths and helps people thrive in difficult times?

This five day residential from Arvon, renowned for its writing courses, will explore how to listen to different voices (human and non-human), how to inspire and catalyse new stories, an how to bear witness and write on behalf of others - reclaiming a traditional role for writers within the community as truth-tellers, record keepers and agents of change.

The course is held at Arvon’s Yorkshire centre Lumb Bank, the former home of Ted Hughes – set in a beautiful Pennine valley near Hebden Bridge. The five days will be led by Lucy Neal (co-founder of London International Festival and author of Playing for Time) and Charlotte du Cann (co-editor of Dark Mountain Books) and includes workshops, one-to-one tutorials and plenty of time to write. Participants will work to create a shared collection of writings by the end of the week.

Suitable for writers, artists, activists, performers, producers, campaigners, communicators Application required. Deadline 25 Nov 2016
