New, would-be and emerging poets living in Totnes and the surrounding villages are invited to take part in a series of free poetry writing workshops culminating in a one hour radio poetry show

Explore poetry as a sonic form through a series of one day workshops covering: training the ear; using visual language; creating verbal music; rhythm and rhyme, story-telling and narrative, and protest songs. You will also get to work in a recording studio.

Workshops will take place at Bogan House, High Street, Totnes on Saturdays from 10am to 5pm.
Group A dates are: January 13, February 10, March 10, April 14, May 12, June 9 2018
Group B dates are: January 27, February 24, March 24, April 28, May 26, June 23 2018

The groups will come together on 1, 8 and 15 September for a performance skills workshop with Matt Harvey, a rehearsal day and the pre-recording of Totally Totnes! a one hour radio show of poetry about everything Totnes - past, present, future, real, mythical, political and imagined.

The workshops will be taught by Totnes poet and creative writing teacher, Heidi Stephenson. Heidi is the former South West Regional Coordinator of performance poetry organisation, Apples & Snakes, where she produced many Spoken Word events and co-produced 3 national tours. Matt Harvey is a writer and poet whose way with words has taken him from Totnes to the Wimbledon Tennis Championships via Saturday Live, the Edinburgh Festival and the Work section of the Guardian. He is host of Wondermentalist – BBC Radio 4’s interactive poetry cabaret.

Project participation is free of charge and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to those who live in TQ9. Participants are required to commit to commit to 9 days across the project duration, but will be able to join their twin group to make up for any missed sessions.
