Artform – Poet
For the 2017 Diwali celebrations in Nottingham we are looking to commission two poets to deliver a series of activity to support two areas of our project. This includes the community outreach work and public engagement performance programme.
Commission details:
One – the delivery of one or two workshops with local community groups. All details of which will be arranged by the project coordinators.
Two – to work from the back of a Tuk Tuk and engage with local people on a one to one basis in market settings and write short personalised poems within a 3 minute time frame when they are joined by members of the public in the Tuk Tuk. (A concept that was trialled at Nottingham Light Night 2017)
Key aims and objectives:
The key aims and objectives of the poetry project are to engage the local community in the cultural traditions associated with the story of Diwali and provoke a sharing of stories of heritage and independence.
Dates:
The workshops will be scheduled to take place at the end of September/early October. The main Diwali Celebrations in the City Centre will be on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th October. The poet will be required to work at the event on Saturday 14th October.
Fee:
The commissioned artist will be paid £150 per day, workshop schedules to be negotiated.
Proposals:
Please send your proposal outlining the concept and example visuals (including photos of your recent work) to give an idea of your proposed work to arts@nottinghamcity.gov.uk
