Join NAWE

NAWE is a membership organization. Our membership includes writers, teachers, students, academics, literature development workers, librarians, universities, colleges and arts organizations.

NAWE aims to put creativity at the heart of education. We believe that everyone should have contact with practising artists - and especially writers. We believe in the importance of the practice and teaching of creative writing.

By joining NAWE you can help us to promote these ideals.

We offer four kinds of membership:

  • Professional Membership: £30 per annum
  • Student/Associate Membership: £20 per annum
  • Institutional Membership: £75 per annum
  • Overseas Membership: £30 per annum

Membership Benefits:

  • 3 free issues per year of Writing in Education, NAWE's informative magazine
  • access to NAWE's programme of professional development opportunities
  • reduced rate booking for our conferences and other events
  • advice and assistance in setting up and running projects
  • representation through NAWE at national events
  • free publicity on the NAWE website
  • access to the members' area of the NAWE website
For Professional Members, NAWE processes Enhanced Disclosure applications to the CRB and can assist in dealing with any other government clearance schemes. The Professional Membership rate also includes free public liability insurance cover to members who work as professional writers in any public or educational arena.

Institutional membership entitles your university, college, arts organization or other institution to nominate up to five individuals to receive full membership benefits. (Further individuals can be added by arrangement.)

The Student/Associate Membership rate is offered to anyone interested in the work of our association who is not a professional writer. Student/Associate Members will not be covered by the insurance scheme and will not be able to apply through NAWE for CRB disclosures or other clearances.

The Overseas Membership rate is to cover the higher cost of postal mailings to all those living outside the UK.

If you would like to join NAWE, please use the online Membership Form. We will then invoice you for your subscription. We prefer payment by Standing Order but also accept payment by cheque.
