Writing at UniversityThe UK boasts an increasing number of university creative writing courses of real excellence and variety. NAWE has established a Higher Education Network (in collaboration with Arts Council England, the British Council and the English Subject Centre) in order to provide information and support for all those teaching or studying on writing courses, prospective students and recent graduates.
New Case Studies Back in 2003, NAWE commissioned case studies from undergraduate and postgraduate students about their experiences of studying creative writing at university. Seven years on, we’ve asked them to bring us up to date and let us know what they’ve been doing since they graduated. The result is a fascinating insight into the realities of the writer’s life. You can read both their original and follow-up accounts here.
RESEARCH
| We are aiming to give doctoral students and doctoral supervisors, worldwide, the opportunity to record the kinds of work they have been undertaking, so that this creative and critical research can be known to others.
As Creative Writing doctorates are still relatively new there is a lack of internationally known Creative Writing doctoral assessors - those with experience and a sense of national and international comparisons. This section of the site aims to provide both a register of these assessors, and an opportunity for supervisors and assessors and students to share their work and experiences. Read more...

| FEATURED WORK | In order to give a full flavour of the work taking place on creative writing programmes in British univerities, we are publishing - on an ongoing basis - a selection of both poetry and prose by students. University tutors and students are welcome to contact us with selections of work for publication in this space.
Currently on offer: writing by students at Nottingham Trent, Keele, Sheffield Hallam, York St John, and the University of Kent at Canterbury.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
| Working in association with literaturetraining, NAWE is undertaking a
major action research project looking at professional development
provision within university writing courses in the UK. All universities
received a postal survey, and a summary of the responses is now
available (below). See the new Professional Development section for
details of the next stage which includes a series of seminars for
creative writing lecturers organized in collaboration with the English
