Northumbrian Association Writers’ Award 2017
Deadline: Fri 26 May 2017
What do you love about the North East? Entries are open for the Northumbrian Association Writers’ Awards 2017 and aspiring writers are invited to put forward creative work inspired by our region

Writers are asked to describe what makes them proud of the North East, whether it’s the people, beautiful landscapes, iconic buildings or perhaps a tradition or way of life. Previous entries have been inspired by the Angel of the North, Beamish Museum, St Mary’s Lighthouse and Kielder, among the outstanding destinations in the region.

Entries can be prose, poetry, a song or any form of literature up to 500 words, and prizes will be awarded in three age categories – 11-14 years, 15-18 years and adults.

Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges, including North East playwright, author and producer Michael Chaplin and local poet Natalie Scott. Prizes will be presented at an awards ceremony at Beamish Museum on 30th June 2017.

The Northumbrian Association aims to promote knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the region’s distinctive culture, traditions and identity, which are celebrated in the annual Writers’ Awards.

The winner in each of the three categories will receive £100 in Amazon vouchers. A runners-up prize will also be awarded. The Gillian Dickinson Trust is delighted to sponsor this Award, continuing its long relationship with the Northumbrian Association in encouraging young people to write descriptively and passionately about North East  England.

The closing date for entries is Friday, 26th May at 5pm. Work must be original and must not exceed the 500 word limit. Email entries to Emily Hope: emilyhope@beamish.org.uk or post to Partnerships Office, Beamish Museum, Beamish, County Durham, DH9 0RG
