Purple Reign: An interdisciplinary conference on the life and legacy of Prince
Deadline: Mon 1 May 2017
Submissions/expressions of interest invited for Purple Reign - a creative writing anthology on the life and legacy of Prince

We seek writing that responds to Prince's legacy, impact and meaning, perhaps by re-writing, writing in response to, reminiscing, reflecting, celebrating, mourning, exploring, provoking, speculating or otherwise engaging with Prince's influence and lasting appeal. Work in any genre will be considered, including (but not limited to) fiction, nonfiction, poetry, multimedia, hybrid, innovative or experimental texts.

This call forms part of “Purple Reign: An interdisciplinary conference on the life and legacy of Prince”. This two-day international conference is hosted by The School of Arts and Media, University of Salford, UK and the Department of Recording Industry, Middle Tennessee State University, USA:

24th – 26th May 2017
Media City UK, University of Salford, UK.

Selected authors will be invited to read work to a live international audience at MediaCityUK during the conference proceedings. However, writers who can't be there in person are still welcome to submit work/expressions of interest to be considered for publication in the anthology, which will be produced after the conference.

Submission Guidelines: We are looking for work of up to 3000 words prose (or equivalent) or up to 5 pages of poetry. Work may be complete, an excerpt from a larger piece, or part of a speculative, exploratory project. Please indicate with your submission whether you are available to read in person 24 – 26 May 2017. Writers who are not available will not be disadvantaged in the anthology call.

If you intend to write a piece that will not be complete by the submission deadline then please supply a detailed expression of interest, including genre, theme and estimated word count, as well as a brief bio and links to previous work. Submissions/expressions of interest should be sent, where possible, as Word or PDF attachments to both Helen Pleasance (h.pleasance@yorksj.ac.uk) and Ursula Hurley (u.k.hurley@salford.ac.uk). The deadline for submissions/expressions of interest is Monday, 1st May 2017. Queries and informal discussions are also welcome at the above addresses.
