Creative Ecology Residency, Sail Britain
Deadline: Tue 31 May 2022
In the context of the UN Ocean Decade and the ocean climate emergency, transdisciplinary artist Christina Peake and oceanographer Kelly Greener will be leading a new art/science sailing residency off Scotland.

Artist Christina Peake and oceanographer Kelly Greener undertook a sailing expedition in 2021, and have developed a new proposal of creative and scientific exploration in collaboration with Sail Britain for the 2022 programme. The expedition grows out of their experience of engaging with the marine environment – and with fellow crew members – to deepen our connection to the natural world.

Context:– the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development
The climate emergency has never been a more pressing issue. In light of what we are facing in our futures, it is vital that we take urgent action. However the solution doesn’t lie with just one field. It will require cross-disciplinary collaboration to halt carbon emissions and reverse the loss of biodiversity.

Artists, communicators, scientists and activists alike are starting to work together to build momentum, explore and understand the science, and collectively find holistic long term strategies to ensure sustainable futures for all species.

The residency will take place on Sail Britain's expedition yacht, Merlin, from 9 – 16th July, beginning and ending in Oban. During the week Kelly and Christina will lead discussions, workshops and practical engagements on ocean topics.

No previous expedition or sailing experience is required and all food, accommodation, equipment and training is included in the crew contribution. Applicants should however be reasonably fit, and happy to have a bit of sea swimming!
