Retreat West: Call for submissions of short stories on women’s suffrage
Deadline: Sun 27 May 2018
Retreat West invites stories and flash fictions to honour 100 years of women’s suffrage and support the Hundred Years March for an anthology that will give voice to the fight. Word count: 300 minimum / 3000 maximum

Stories submitted should be around the themes of the march as outlined in the bullet points below:

•in honour of the suffragettes who won women the vote;
•in a world where women continue to face abuse, violence or death if they exercise what are basic human rights such as going to school; and where governments and regimes restrict women’s freedoms every day;
•marking 3 November as the day of the ‘pay gap’ on which many women start working for free for the remainder of the year due to pay inequality;
•in the wake of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements, surfacing the extent of predatory and abusive behaviours experienced by women;
•at a time of joy that women are now world leaders, humanitarians, teachers, scientists, artists, doctors, lawyers, bishops and activists – yet too often these women are judged on their looks and not their deeds.

Stories are invited from writers of all genders and nationalities but must be written in English.

Further essential information, including full submission procedures can be found at the Retreat West website

Deadline: 27 May 2018
