Formerly known as the Max Reinhardt Literacy Awards, MaxLiteracy was initiated by the Max Reinhardt Charitable Trust and is run by Engage in partnership with the National Association for Writers in Education. Galleries, art museums and visual arts venues across England are invited to submit a proposal to host an Award, to support a creative writer to work with a school and a gallery/art museum/visual art venue.

MaxLiteracy is a biennial programme and will run again in three selected venues in 2019, 2021 and 2023. The Awards are funded by the Max Reinhardt Charitable Trust and have been supported since 2016 by the Ernest Cook Trust.
