Society of Authors: How to write funny with Jan Etherington
Thu 12 Sep 2019 to Thu 12 Sep 2019
Multi-award-winning comedy writer Jan Etherington guides you through the essentials of comedy writing. This evening event is open to non SoA members.

Jan Etherington believes comedy is the hardest thing to write and should be taken seriously. She discusses the eternal triangle – character, dialogue, plot – and how to avoid stereotypes – in word and deed. Would he say that? Do I believe this character?

Also, some thoughts on how to get your script to commissioners and producers.

Jan Etherington is a multi-award-winning comedy writer. Her latest comedy, for which she is writing a full series, after two specials, is BBC R4's Conversations From a Long Marriage starring Joanna Lumley and Roger Allam, transmitting in January 2020.
