Voices and Villanelles: A poetry writing workshop with Alison Clayburn
Sat 14 Dec 2019 to Sat 14 Dec 2019
A small low cost workshop for both new and experienced writers of poetry, facilitated by Alison Clayburn, a poet and fiction writer with an MA in Creative Writing and thirty years tutoring experience. This workshop offers the opportunity to write in an adopted voice, then practise a classic rhyming form.
Programme
1.We will start by looking at some examples of poetic monologue: inhabiting a character (human, animal or another entity) and writing in their voice, using natural speech rhythms to express their thoughts and feelings. Then you will inhabit your own character (real or invented) and write your own!
2. We’ll go on to look at published examples of the Villanelle – a traditional verse firm using repetition of lines, still used to great effect by modern poets. Then you will write a villanelle! 3.There will also be time for feedback and advice on any draft poems you already have 'in the oven'. Bring one along!
The group will be small, confidential and supportive.
