Artist-in-Residence Opportunity 2019, Josephine Butler College, Durham University
Deadline: Fri 5 Oct 2018
An artist-in-residence opportunity has arisen at Josephine Butler College. As Durham University’s newest college, we are a bright, dynamic, and creative place to be. We are inviting applications from artists working in any discipline (including writers). The residency will run for eight months from 8 January 2019 until 8 September 2019.

We are seeking someone with a collaborative or participative style who can engage with students and staff, and can also link with some of our community partners.

The expectation is that the artist may work the equivalent of 1 to 1.5 days per week, but we are flexible in how this is arranged or spread out across the residency.

The theme for the residency is “Collaboration”. How this is realised is open to interpretation. The material outcomes of the residency are flexible, but may take the form of temporary or permanent artworks/installations/productions/recordings created with input from students, staff, and the local community. We would like the end of the residency to culminate in an exhibition or event, where the artist in residence could showcase the work produced.

You will be provided with free accommodation in a self-contained, fully furnished, one bedroom flat. Josephine Butler is a fully en-suite, self-catering college. You would also be invited to contribute to our college mentoring system and to attend our formal dinners which happen regularly. You will have your own office-space.

We have a small arts development group who will help support your work. Durham is a great place to live and work and this is a good opportunity for an artist to develop their own creative practice in a wonderful geographic and scholarly environment.

Closing date: Friday 5 October 2018 at 1pm
Interviews: Week commencing 22nd October or 29th October 2018
